What are we about?

The Nurses Specialty Group of ACT is an organization of Christian nursing students, practicing and retired nurses. The purpose of our group is to provide a safe harbor where nurses can rest and be refreshed through supporting, empowering and witnessing to each other. We join all nurses in their efforts to bring safe, competent and compassionate care to their patients and clients.

Our goal is to help our nurses  be better prepared to assist people spiritually, psychosocially, and physically as they face present day healthcare challenges. For many of us, the friendships formed in ACT across denominational lines, with fellow believers in the healing power of Christ Jesus, have been lasting and empowering and have followed us throughout life.

Who is invited to attend our Specialty Group sessions at ACT Meetings?

We encourage all nurses (students, nurses currently in practice or retired) to join our group.  If you are interested in growing  spiritually; experiencing physical, mental, emotional, relational and spiritual healing.  Then this is the group for you.

What can this Specialty Group offer you?

All members and non-members are encouraged  to attend ACT Regional and International meetings.  Our group also  offers opportunities presented through conference calls, workshops, Webinars, local meetings, online meeting sessions and other ways to share the richness of healing we find through sharing our individual and group ministries. Our Group gathers to learn from one another and pray with each other.

What are the responsibilities and opportunities of this Specialty Group?

One of the opportunities you will have is to make ACT members and the Internet community aware of your ministries and your special gifts .  Opportunities exists for education, networking, publishing articles in our group newsletter and other ACT publications.

As far as responsibilities are concerned, we strive to support the vision and mission of ACT,  and hope that all who join us are deeply committed to enhancing the glory of God and furthering the healing mission of our Lord Jesus Christ in whatever way they are called.

ACT Nurses hope that you will feel free enough to share the ways God has taught you to be a healing presence in today’s world. And we would also like the opportunity to share our experience with you as well!

The biggest disease today is not leprosy or tuberculosis,
but rather the feeling of being unwanted, uncared for, and deserted by everybody.

Dear Fellow Nurses
Our vocation leads us to share in some of the most beautiful and profound mysteries of life. We join all nurses in their efforts to bring safe, competent and compassionate care to our patients. We thank you for your many contributions to Nursing.

Nurses Litany

Several ACT nurses were discussing with co- founder Barbara Shelmon Ryan some of the hardships and frustrations that nurses experience in the workplace. Barbara composed the following litany for us.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit

Perhaps our greatest distinction from other Nursing Organizations is our integration of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit. We share a common belief that the Gifts of the Holy Spirit are available to us today- with emphasis on the Giver of the Gifts.

Christian Laying on of Hands

We learn, participate, and teach the Christian Laying on of Hands. Healing prayer is not about learning techniques. It is about surrender to the Divine Healer, Jesus Christ. Like St Frances of Assisi, we are His instruments. Healing occurs through and because of Jesus Christ.
